You may have listened to the Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2 this lunch time - I was listening as I made some lunch following a morning working from home.  As a mum of 2 boys and with many close friends with varying numbers of children between us, the debate of what is best for our children is a debate that will go on forever and ever?  Why because one way doesn't fit all.   What works for your family may not work for another and what works for your eldest child probably won't work for your other children.   I have 2 boys, both very different even though they have the same mummy and have in effect been brought up in the same environment.  Isn't this what makes us all individuals as babies and as adults?  So a national debate about whether Baby Einstein is good or bad was s a very interesting reprieve from work and one that surely can't be answered positively or negatively either way.

All the contributors to the show gave very eloquent pros and cons - great to hear from mums and dads who all had their own views on whether it is beneficial to use Baby Einstien - so what is Baby Einstein?  Here is a summary of what their mission is:

Baby Einstein offers a wide range of developmentally appropriate products for babies and toddlers. What makes Baby Einstein products unlike any other is that they are created from a baby's point-of-view and incorporate a unique combination of real world objects, music, art, language, poetry and nature — providing you an opportunity to introduce your baby to the world around them in playful and enriching ways. This simple principle is the foundation for The Baby Einstein Company and its products.

Surely, if it works for you and your baby then great, if it doesn't for your subsequent child then that's OK too.  The trouble starts when parent forces certain types of behaviour on a reluctant child - in the case of over ambitious parents hoping that a Saturday and Sunday match will result in the next David Beckham - in some instances it will and in others, it will invariably create unhappiness for all concerned.

If you have a strong opinion, please let us know, we can publish it on our blog page.
